SCV TOURNAMENT OUTDOOR RULES

After the 2nd time you place 1st or 2nd in your division individuals
will move up to the next level of play at the next tournament.
- No turf shoes, spikes or cleats allowed.
- You may play the ball head to toe.
Serving
- One toss on a serve is allowed. You are not allowed to catch it or let it drop.
Should the ball strike the ground or be caught without being hit, it is a
side out for the serving team.
- Kick serves are legal.
Passing
- On a serve receive more than one contact is allowed as long as it would be
considered one attempt to play the ball.
- Beach digs are not allowed on serve receive. Hands must be together, no fingertips.
- Beach digs can not come to rest in a player’s hand.
- The definition of a hard driven ball is a ball that has been hit from above the
height of the net directly toward the ground with NO UPWARD ARC in trajectory
of the ball and with significant velocity (referee discretion).
Setting
- Hand sets allow 1+1/2 maximum rotations in Open & AA only.
- Shoulders must be square to the path of the ball if setting the ball over the net (regardless of intention to set over the net).
Hitting
- No open hand dinks.
Blocking
- A player can not block a serve.
- No redirect on blocks.
- A block is not a touch; 3 touch maximum.
Court Play
- Players can go under the net if not interfering with the play or their opponent
(referee discretion).
- “Ball on” is an honor call.
- If boundary lines come up during play continue playing.
- Continuation of play applies — no touching net, poles, or ropes.
Reverse Coed Additional Rules
- Working team on the 10’ lines — both players MUST be there.
- When a male player contacts the ball inside the 10’ line his hand must be below the height of the net and one foot must be on the ground.
